There are many companies trying to shatter the idea of stereotypes as well as shattering image personifications. The Dove be beautiful advertisements have covered our televisions for the last 5 years, but what about the women that create their own voice, they don’t have sponsors to blast out their idea of what beauty really looks like. The truth? It comes in all shapes, sizes, and cultures.

Muslim vloggers Dina Tokio, Zukreat Nazar, Manal Chinutay, and Amena Khan are attempting to shatter the glass ceiling when it comes to beauty. With a following of over 4 million people, these women are a beacon of hope for all the girls who were told that their version of beauty wasn’t enough.

In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, the four girls opened up about how wearing a hijab is their own choice and how makeup can really make a difference in the world. “It annoyed me a bit that I didn’t see any representation of Muslim women other than really negative ones or ones that just weren’t like me and my friends were, and I just thought, ‘You know what, the only way to talk to people or show people what we’re like is to just get on,’” said Tokio. “’Get on YouTube, get on social media yourself, and just do it yourself.’”

“We are very much free. A lot of people feel that we may be oppressed, but we’re not oppressed,” said Zucreat. “We decide and we choose to wear the headscarf.”

The girls go on to explain that just because they choose to wear the headscarf doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy putting on makeup and fashion. “It may seem like such a small thing to do, to have the notion that beauty can make a difference,” Khan said. “But just having the platform and being able to engage with people as a human has the potential to broaden people’s minds about understanding Muslim women, and women in general.”
